Feed me one of my favorite snacks.... It disappears when I "eat" it! When I'm finished eating, look in my pack...
Just like magic, my snack is back! Inside there's a Birth Certificate and an Adoption Certificate to show I belong to only you!
You can frame them and hang them up! My clothes are removable for dressing fun!
History These kids are collector items, not toys, because they were withdrawn from the market January 6, 1997 in a voluntary refund program.
Snacktime Kids were introduced in the fall of 1996. They were a hit during Christmas 1996.
Shortly thereafter Mattel withdrew this product from all retail shelves across the U.S. and
discontinued the distribution of the Snacktime Kids dolls. Mattel took this action following reports of people getting their hair
and fingers caught in the mouths of the dolls. Testing was done and while there were no serious safety hazards identified, Mattel
took these actions with their concern for consumer satisfaction.
Mattel was supposed to put labels on the dolls that were still on the shelves in December of 1996. This is what the label was to say:
Long hair and fingers can get caught in the doll's mouth, and the doll's chewing action can be stopped immediately by removing the backpack. The doll will not operate without the backpack in place.
However, ALL dolls were still pulled from the shelves in January 1997 following the voluntary refund program announced by Mattel.
Our Snacktime Kids do not have the warning label.
Syndicated newspaper humor columnist Dave Barry joked about the recall in his popular nationally-published column,
joining late night talk show hosts Jay Leno and David Letterman in a comic salute to this national event.
Who knows how many were actually returned for this refund, but I rarely see this doll on the 2nd market for resale.
